Being a germaphobe is not the end of the world, there are plenty of products and gadgets out there that help make it easier. This post is to give you some basic tips to keep bacterial and germs at bay as well as some products that do wonders for those scared of getting sick from creepy crawlies they cannot see.

Tip Number ONE: Wash your hands often
Washing your hands several times a day can do a heck of a lot to help keep you healthy. Try to avoid doorknobs as well as faucet knobs as much as homanly possible, if you can get someone else to open the door for you go for it.

Tip Number TWO: Avoid shaking hands
Some may call you paranoid for not wanting to shake hands but they are the crazy ones. So so so many germs and viruses are transferred through human touch. If you do have to shake hands with someone be sure to refer back to tip number one.

Germ Killing Solutions

Being a germaphobe means a lot of handwashing and one of the cheapest and effective ways to get rid of the bacteria on your hands is to wash with Dial Complete Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash. And for the times when you don’t have time to do this, or no access to a sink, you can carry a small bottle of Purell Instant Hand Sanitizer with you in the car or your purse. It works just as good as any hand soap.

If you are a serious gemaphobe then you are probably leery of touching the pumps on the soap dispensers, in that case check into getting yourself a touch free soap dispenser. These work automatically, just place your hand under the sensor and it will squirt the soap right into your hand. The Simplehuman Sensor Soap Pump does more than that. It will even time out the 20 seconds you should lather your hands for. It’s a great solution to staying healthy.

These will help you kill germs and viruses and allow you to go about your day without having to worry about getting sick because someone else don’t know what soap is for.

I think to go as far as not shaking someones hand is a little extreme. I think its a good idea to be clean and wash hands but that just might put you in the category of being “weird”.

Purell and all the hand sanitizers are great portable solutions. Otherwise i will stick with solution one and use a hand washing station or sink.

I think not shaking hands is too much paranoid for me. however, if its not because of that swine flu virus, I wouldnt mind shaking hands at all.

More accurate name for them would be microbe drugs for that is what antibiotics really are. Antibiotics are essentially chemicals that helped kill or stop the growth of certain germs and bacteria.

One thing people don;t realize is we need to be exposed to germs early in life or we can get severe allergies. The body turns on itself if it does not get to fight invaders.

Last thing I think anyone wants to become is another Howard Hughes – locked up in a germ-free environmental room! But, with the deadliness of the latest Swine Flu, precautions should be taken.

I’m now carrying Purell with me (just a small bottle in my pants pocket), so that IF I feel I’ve been “slimed”, I can just quickly clean up.

I would NEVER want to not shake someone’s hand in fear of getting germs, etc.

    Nice article!

Washing your hands again and again and avoid shaking hands seems to be odd to some people but its essential to keep yourself germ free as prevention is better than cure.

The touch free dispensers are the way to go. hey have them where I work. There are alcohol dispensers in several locations for us to use in addition to washing our hands. They have them by the time clocks, which are the hand recognition type, so it’s really a help to make the office germ free.
